The long awaited White Paper on DB pension schemes was published by the DWP on 19 March 2018, over a year after the Green Paper in February 2017. Usually a White Paper sets out decisions that have been taken but this one proposes more consultation during 2018 on the powers of the Pensions Regulator, scheme funding and options for scheme consolidation.

Increases to pension benefits Jan 2018 The increases to RPI and CPI inflation, calculated as the rise in the indices over the year Sep 16 to Sep 17, are likely to be used by many schemes to increase pensions in payment and revalue pension benefits pre retirement. The rates for 2018 are RPI inflation of 3.8% and CPI inflation of 3.0%.

The volume of requests for a transfer value statement from members of DB pension schemes continues to rise. For the first nine months of 2017, TDC has received 33% more requests for transfer value statements than in the corresponding period for 2016.

The Administration & General Levy

Invoices have now been issued to trustees of all DB pension schemes by the Pensions Regulator for the Administration & General Levy. This is the more affordable of the two levies that DB schemes have to pay each year, the other one being the levy for the PPF which will be invoiced in September 2017.
